My first exposure to MSX was back in the mid-80s, as part of the description of the Yamaha 9938 VDP used by the Myarc Geneve 9640. I have relatively recently (early 2017) imported a Panasonic FS-A1FX MSX2+ computer from Japan. With my TI-99/4A background, this computer is a joy. All of the MSX(1) game titles feel like they should be on a 4A. And the MSX2 titles are things we should be able to pull off on a Geneve....
My father had one of these advanced TI-99/4A compatible computers that was late to a very small market. It was so much faster than a 4A and it had 80 column text, and the same graphics capabilities as the MSX2. There are ‘GENMOD’ version of the Geneve with a 2 megabyte MEMEX expansion card. This allows the Geneve to use a full 2 megs of 0 waitstate memory, making it even faster in its native mode of operation....

This is a marvelously under explored system from 1982. I have a US Tomy Tutor, modified with a pico-psu, F18A VGA replacement for the TMS9918 video chip, and a custom built cherry switch keyboard. I also have a Tomy Pyūta mk II, but the only mods I’ve made to it, are to tap the composite video output. This mod is easily reversable.
